Registration open for summer reading program

Students reading at LCC

The Loyola Clinical Centers (LCC) is offering the Literacy Scholars Program, a summer reading program to help children鈥檚 literacy and language arts skills, at the Loyola/Notre Dame Library.

The Literacy Scholars Program will be offered Monday through Thursday from June 24 through July 31, 2019. The program is open to children entering grades 1-12 and will be taught by graduate students in Loyola鈥檚 reading specialist master鈥檚 program.

鈥淭his program is important for students because it helps prevent learning loss in the summer and reinforces skillsets they have learned over the course of the school year,鈥 said Kristina Collins, clinical instructor and division director of literacy at the LCC.

One-hour individual and small-group tutoring is available in the morning or afternoon throughout the program. Registration for the program opens Monday, Feb. 18, 2019, and applications are free. A one-time administrative fee of $30 will be collected from selected families for the six-week program.

鈥淭hrough this summer program, the University can represent Loyola鈥檚 values and give back to the community,鈥 said Collins. 鈥淭his program allows our graduate students to apply their practicum experience and receive first-hand experience with students.鈥
