Message from Rev. Brian F. Linnane, S.J., Loyola鈥檚 president, in response to the governor鈥檚 draft Consolidated Transportation Program:
Rev. Brian F. Linnane, S.J., released this statement in response to Governor Larry Hogan鈥檚 draft Consolidated Transportation Program:
鈥淎s a member of the Board of Directors of the Greater Baltimore Committee and as the
president of an anchor institution in Baltimore City, I ask Gov. Hogan to reconsider
the recently proposed cuts to operating and capital funding for the Maryland Transit
Administration. These cuts, which include cuts in routes and services, would have
a negative impact on the residents of the Greater Baltimore region who are dependent
on public transportation. Statewide transportation funding should be allocated in
a more equitable manner, particularly at this moment in history where we are working
actively to recognize and undo the systemic issues of racism that have created inequity
throughout our city, our state, and our nation. Access to transportation provides
access to education, employment, and services. I invite other leaders in our community
to join me in advocating for equitable transportation funding and greater access and
justice, particularly for the Black and Brown residents of the underserved communities
in the Baltimore region.鈥
from the Greater Baltimore Committee.
