Govans Farmers' Market returns for 11th season

Govanstowne farmers' market during the summer with customers and vendors

Â鶹ľ«Ńˇâ€™s York Road Initiative (YRI) will host the 11th season of the Govans Farmers’ Market on Wednesdays from 3 – 6 p.m. between June 1 and Sept. 28, 2022. The market is located in the parking lot of Loyola's Transportation and Public Safety complex at 5104 York Rd. The side entrance on Notre Dame Lane will be the main point of entry.

“Govans Farmers’ Market is one of the first programs established by Loyola’s York Road Initiative.  Now in its 11th season, the market has grown from a six-week pilot program to a four-month season,” said Marie McSweeney Anderson, assistant director of the York Road Initiative. “It’s been extremely gratifying to see vendors who started their careers at the market who have gone on to open brick and mortar stores in Baltimore City. Residents and families have grown with the market and return year after year creating the market as a community staple in the Govans."

Market selections include returning favorites serving fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables, cold crabs and seafood, baked goods, and hot Mexican food, including tacos and burritos. New vendors this year include , a bakery in the Charles Village neighborhood of Baltimore; , coffee offerings that honor strong women; Jam from the Fam, Australian-inspired and American-born jam; and , a farm that offers wholesome produce, hospitality, and ecological education.

Loyola’s York Road Initiative continues to work toward food equity for all. The Govans Farmers’ Market was created to provide the York Road community of north Baltimore City with produce that is affordable, fresh, and local. The Govanstowne neighborhood is located in a food desert just a short walk from Loyola’s Evergeen campus.
